Ellen Blakeley Studio and School

WORKSHOPS   PRIVATE LESSONS   STUDIO SPACE

Mosaic Artist Ellen Blakeley, who pioneered the unique technique of Tempered Glass Mosaic is now opening up her spacious, sunny Sebastopol studio to all students who want to learn a new kind of mosaic application. Clients include Carlos and Deborah Santana and her art pieces are regularly shown at Gump's in San Francisco. Ellen started her Recycled Vandalism creations in San Francisco in 1994, by picking up the broken safety glass at vandalized bus shelters. Applying this technique to surfaces of all kinds has lead her to: walls, floors, backsplashes, windows, murals, sculpture, paintings, tabletops, coasters, spheres, vases, bowls and most recently, sinks and chandeliers.

A printable Registration form may be found here or call 707.824.0333 to talk to Ellen or one of her assistants personally.

Basic Tempered Glass Mosaics
A two day intensive study of the Tempered Glass Technique begins with a combination of collage and color, and moves through the stages of gluing, glassing, grouting, and edging in a flow of inspiring information. Two days of creativity in an exciting atmosphere. All students will complete a set of coasters, a mirror frame, a garden rock, and a small painting.

Intermediate Tempered Glass Mosaics
Students who have taken the Basic Tempered Workshop can return with a three dimensional form of their choice and explore different methods of applying the Tempered Glass Technique to their piece. During this two day workshop we explore the challenges of refining our edges, our color choices, and the technical mastery of every shape and size.

Playing with Color
A one day color workshop for people who are fearful of mixing colors. This is NOT a mosaic class. We will be working with paint and paper. No thinking allowed, just relaxing and enjoying a new approach.
